About Us
After prevailing in a struggle against building a garbage transfer station in their neighborhood, a small group of community activists learned a great deal about solid waste management and our ability to create economic opportunity that is both environmentally and socially responsible.
The ReUse Center Store emerged from this experience. The ReUse Center sells salvaged, new, and surplus reusable building materials such as doors, windows, cabinets, plumbing fixtures, lumber, millwork, flooring, every variety of hardware, lighting, appliances, and more. Our lumber products include three environmentally sound options that include salvaged from homes and commercial sites, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) flooring, paneling and millwork from sustainably managed forests, and reclaimed where new wood products are milled from materials like old barn beams and turned into flooring, mantels, tables, etc. Since 1995, our venture has kept approximately 5,000 tons of reusable construction materials out of landfills.
Our DeConstruction Services Program was incorporated in 1998, employing crews to carefully remove building materials from buildings that are being remodeled or demolished, effectively extending the lifetime of quality materials that would otherwise be discarded. |
